What it is

A run of wooden chalets along the Queen’s Walk in front of the Royal Festival Hall, mostly hot food, mulled wine and a few craft stalls. It is the easiest market in London to get to and the best of them for a drink after work, which is also why it is solid from six o’clock onwards.

What it costs

Nothing to walk through. Everything in it costs money, and riverside chalet prices are what they are: expect to pay more for a bratwurst here than at any market outside zone one. The Festival Hall behind it is warm, free to sit in and has its own bar, which is the locals’ answer to the queue outside.

When it runs

The Southbank Centre has published the 2026 run: open from 2 November to 4 January, on the Queen’s Walk under Hungerford Bridge. Confirmed against its own page on 4 October 2026, which is the one to trust if it changes.

The post Southbank Centre Winter Market appeared first on The Late Edition.

Wooden chalets around the square with mulled wine, bratwurst and the Spiegeltent, plus a Christmas tree and a small funfair. It is the most central of the London markets and the most compact, which cuts both ways.

Worth knowing

Free to walk through, and everything in it costs money. It is busiest between five and eight when the theatres are filling. Weekday afternoons are almost pleasant. The Spiegeltent shows are ticketed separately.

Getting there

Leicester Square station is on the corner. Chinatown is one street north and is a better dinner than anything in the chalets. The Covent Garden page has the rest of what is on nearby. Everything we list at this address is on the Leicester Square page.

The 2026 dates are not confirmed

Checked on 8 September 2026: Leicester Square has not published its 2026 run yet. The dates on this page are what we expect from its recent runs, early November into the first week of January, and we will replace them with the operator’s the day they go up. The Leicester Square what’s on is where they will appear, and it is the page to trust over ours until then.

The post Leicester Square Christmas Market appeared first on The Late Edition.

A stretch of riverside chalets between London Bridge and Tower Bridge, with the best view of any London Christmas market: you are looking straight across at HMS Belfast and the Tower.

Worth knowing

Free to walk through. It runs along the Queen’s Walk, so it is exposed to the wind off the river and colder than an inland market by several degrees. Come at dusk when the Tower lights up opposite.

Getting there

London Bridge station is three minutes behind it.

Rows of traditional wooden chalets selling gifts, Christmas decorations and food.

Worth knowing

There is nothing to pay to walk through beyond park entry, which is the answer to the question people actually ask about London Christmas markets. It is the largest of them by some distance, and also the only one you have to book an arrival slot to reach.

Part of Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, which runs from Thursday 19 November 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027 and is closed on Christmas Day only. Park entry is booked as a dated one hour arrival slot and costs a pound off peak, five pounds fifty standard and eight pounds twenty five at peak, or nothing at all if you add twenty five pounds of rides, food or attractions to the same booking. Booking fees are included in those prices this year.

What it is

The one covered market on this page, and a permanent one rather than a row of chalets put up for six weeks. The stalls are traders with their own businesses, so it is craft, antiques and cooked food rather than the same mulled wine and the same felt decorations you get at every seasonal market in the city.

When it is open

Every day, 10am to 5.30pm, bank holidays included. It closes on Christmas Day and on the first six Mondays of the new year, and that is the whole list. Which market you get depends on the day: arts and crafts on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and at weekends, antiques and collectables on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Friday is the day both run.

Why it is worth the trip in December

Because it is under a roof. The riverside markets are exposed and December in London is usually wet, and this is the one you can spend an hour in without getting cold. It is also open on days the seasonal markets have packed up, including the days between Christmas and the new year.

What else is there

The market sits inside Maritime Greenwich, so the Old Royal Naval College, the Cutty Sark and the park are all a few minutes away. Cutty Sark for Maritime Greenwich on the DLR is the nearest station. The river boat from central London costs more and takes longer and is the better journey if it is dry.

The post Greenwich Market in December appeared first on The Late Edition.

A month of events along the whole tidal river, from Teddington to the estuary: boat races, foreshore archaeology, river swims, art installations on the water and a great deal that happens at low tide and cannot happen at any other time.

Worth knowing

Most of the programme is free and a lot of it is tide-dependent, which means the times move day to day and are not negotiable. Check the tide table alongside the programme. The foreshore walks book out first because the groups are small.

Getting there

It runs the length of the river, so the nearest station depends entirely on which event. The South Bank and Greenwich carry the most of it. The South Bank page has the rest of what is on nearby.
