September in London, and what is actually worth turning up for
The month the city gets its buildings, its theatres and its galleries back from the summer. Three things are worth planning around and the rest can be decided on the day.

September is the best month in London and nobody says so, probably because it has no single event with a name everyone knows. What it has instead is three weekends where the city opens things it usually keeps shut.
Open House
Open House is several hundred buildings letting people in for free, most of them with no ticket at all. The ones that do need booking open in August and go within hours, so by the weekend itself it is too late to plan. Pick a neighbourhood rather than a list across town.
Theatre Week
Theatre Week is the cheapest the West End gets, and the price bands are real rather than a headline number on one back row.
Everything else
The galleries reopen properly, the season starts at the theatres, and the evenings are still long enough to walk home in. The month page has what is dated and confirmed, and coming up has what is further out.
For the next seven days specifically, this week is rebuilt every Monday.
