Guides Mother's Day 2027 Fri 5 to Sun 7 March Updated 6 Sep 2026
Mother’s Day in London 2027: where to book, and why it is not the same Sunday every year
Sunday 7 March 2027, three weeks before Easter. It is a lunch, not a dinner, and the good tables are gone by the middle of February.

Mothering Sunday 2027 falls on Sunday 7 March. It moves every year because it is fixed to Easter rather than to the calendar: three weeks before Easter Sunday, which in 2027 is 28 March. That is why it is early in 2027 and why half the people booking will assume it is later.
It is a lunch
This is the one Sunday in the year when London restaurants are busier at one o’clock than at eight. Book lunch. The evening sittings are quieter, cheaper and easier to get, and if your party includes anyone very young or very old they are also a worse idea than they sound.
Most kitchens run a set menu on the day and a good many drop their a la carte entirely, so check what you are booking rather than assuming the usual menu. Roasts sell out first, in the literal sense: kitchens cook a fixed number and stop.
When the tables go
Earlier than people think. The rooms worth having take Mother’s Day bookings from January, and by the middle of February you are choosing between a noon sitting and a three o’clock one. If you are reading this in the week before, look at hotel dining rooms and the larger brasseries: they have the covers to absorb a rush, where a forty seat restaurant does not.
What else works
Afternoon tea is the obvious alternative and books up just as hard, but it holds later slots. A walk and a pub lunch outside zone one is the underrated version: the further out you go the more chance you have of a table, and the parks are at their best in early March.
The galleries and museums are free, open, and far quieter on a Mother’s Day than on an ordinary Sunday, because everybody is at lunch.
The practical bit
Early March means the Sunday tube service and the usual weekend engineering work. If you are crossing London for a one o’clock table, check the route on the Saturday.

Questions people ask
When is Mother's Day 2027 in the UK?
Sunday 7 March 2027. It is set three weeks before Easter Sunday, which is 28 March in 2027, so the date moves every year.
Why does Mother's Day change date?
Because Mothering Sunday is fixed to the church calendar rather than the ordinary one. It is the fourth Sunday of Lent, which lands three weeks before Easter.
Should I book lunch or dinner?
Lunch. It is the one Sunday of the year when London restaurants are fuller at one than at eight, and the evening sittings are easier to get and usually cheaper.
When should I book?
January. The rooms worth having open their Mother's Day books early and by mid February you are choosing between the earliest and the latest sittings.
What if everywhere is full?
Hotel dining rooms and large brasseries hold up better than small restaurants because they have the covers. Afternoon tea keeps later slots. And the museums and galleries are free, open and unusually quiet that day.
Every listing on this page is checked against the venue's own page and the page is rewritten each year, usually six to eight weeks before the dates. Times and prices can change on the night; the venue link on each event is the one to trust. How we choose what goes in.
