The Late Edition

London's evening edition. Independent, updated daily.

Prices read off each operator's own booking page in September 2026. HintHunt London has closed, although published roundups still list it.

Escape rooms in London: what a room costs, and why two players pay the most

The per person price falls as the group grows, and a pair at peak pays £46 each. The published rates, and one famous room that has closed.

A desk of puzzles, a typewriter and a magnifying glass

Escape rooms are priced per person but sold per room, which means the number in the advert depends entirely on how many of you turn up. At AIM Escape a pair pays £46 each on a Saturday. The same room, the same hour, with four of you, is £36 each. Nobody puts that in a roundup.

What the two biggest operators charge

WhereOff-peak, per personPeak, per personPlayers
clueQuest£31.99£36.993 to 6, 7 at a push
clueQuest, IAMAI£39.99£39.994 to 8
AIM Escape, a pair£36£462
AIM Escape, a group£31£363 to 5

Published rates, September 2026. Both run 60 minute games. clueQuest is at 169 to 171 Caledonian Road N1, AIM Escape at 8 Canter Way E1.

AIM publishes its boundary plainly: off-peak is Monday to Friday from 9am to 4.59pm, and peak is weekday evenings from 5pm and the whole of Saturday and Sunday. clueQuest charges two rates without putting the cut-off on its FAQ, so check which slots price at which on its booking calendar.

The arithmetic that actually matters

Four people at AIM on a Saturday is £144 for the room. The same four on a Thursday afternoon is £124. Two people on that Saturday is £92 for a room built for more of you, which is the worst value on the board and the commonest way people book.

If there are two of you, find a third and a fourth. It lowers the price each and the rooms are designed around four or five sets of hands.

One that has closed

HintHunt London appears in most published lists of the best escape rooms in the city. It has closed. Its own website says so on the front page and points visitors at clueQuest instead. If a roundup you are reading still lists it, that tells you when the roundup was last checked.

How late you can play

Later than most people assume. AIM’s booking calendar runs slots up to 22:20, so a room is a real option after dinner rather than only an afternoon one. Allow more than the hour on the clock: clueQuest asks for 80 to 90 minutes at the venue once the briefing and the photographs are done.

Questions people ask

How much is an escape room in London?

Between about £31 and £46 per person. clueQuest charges £31.99 off-peak and £36.99 peak, AIM Escape £31 to £46 depending on the day and how many of you there are.

Is an escape room cheaper with more people?

Yes, substantially. At AIM Escape a pair pays £46 each at peak while a group of four pays £36 each, so two extra players lower the price for everyone.

When is off-peak at a London escape room?

AIM Escape sets off-peak at Monday to Friday, 9am to 4.59pm, with weekday evenings and the whole weekend at peak. clueQuest charges two rates but does not publish the cut-off, so check its booking calendar.

Is HintHunt London still open?

No. HintHunt London has closed and its own website now directs visitors to clueQuest, although many published roundups still list it.

How long does an escape room take?

The game is 60 minutes but allow 80 to 90 minutes at the venue, which is what clueQuest asks for once the briefing and the after game photographs are included.

Every listing on this page is checked against the venue's own page and the page is rewritten each year, usually six to eight weeks before the dates. Times and prices can change on the night; the venue link on each event is the one to trust. How we choose what goes in.
