What to expect

Christine Baranski makes her West End debut as Judith Bliss, the actress who has retired from the stage and already misses the applause, opposite Richard E. Grant as her novelist husband. Noel Coward’s comedy of appalling manners opens at Wyndham’s on Tuesday 22 September and runs to 12 December, directed by Emily Burns.

Worth knowing

The plot is four self-absorbed Blisses each inviting a guest for the same weekend without telling the others, and a country house collapsing into parlour games and put-downs. The company also includes Nancy Carroll, Will Close, Charles Edwards, Ophelia Lovibond, Ash Hunter, Lucy Karczewski and Jo McInnes.

Performances are Monday to Saturday at 7.30pm with matinees at 2.30pm on Wednesday and Saturday, and it runs about two hours including an interval. The production has flashing lights and onstage smoking. Everyone needs a ticket whatever their age, under-threes are not admitted, and under-sixteens must sit next to someone over eighteen. The theatre publishes no headline price and asks you to check individual performances, so look at the date you want. Leicester Square is the nearest tube.
