What to expect

Tim Sheader’s Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production of the Rice and Lloyd Webber rock opera drew record demand for its summer at the Palladium, and now it moves into Drury Lane for the winter. Sam Ryder keeps the title role, his West End debut, with choreography by Drew McOnie and design by Tom Scutt. The story is told through Judas’s eyes, which is why it plays as a rock show rather than a Passion play.

King Herod is a guest role that changes every week or two, with nine names booked between now and January. For the first fortnight, 16 to 31 October, it is Matt Bomer; Rob Brydon, Michael Ball and Glenn Close come later.

Worth knowing

From £25 with no booking fee when booked direct, including a £1.70 restoration levy. Recommended for 10 and over; under 4s are not admitted. There are flashing lights, pyrotechnics, haze, imitation blood and an onstage crucifixion. Checked against LW Theatres’ own page for the show on 11 October 2026.
