Directions

What to expect

For one Sunday a year Trafalgar Square is handed over to Japan Matsuri, and it runs from ten in the morning until eight at night without a ticket in sight. The stage carries traditional and contemporary acts through the day, there are martial arts demonstrations between them, and the food and craft stalls fill the square around the fountains.

Worth knowing

It is free and there is nothing to book, so you can drift in for an hour or make a day of it. The stage keeps going into the evening, which makes the last couple of hours, after the light goes, a good time to arrive if you are coming from somewhere else. Charing Cross is the nearest station, with Embankment and Leicester Square a short walk away.

The date, the hours and the free entry were read on Japan Matsuri’s own site on 27 September 2026.

Nearby

Westminster has the nearest stations and everything else on in the same part of town. The Trafalgar Square page collects every listing we hold for that address. Filed under Food and drink.
