St George’s Day in London 2027: the free festival in Trafalgar Square

The Mayor’s festival takes the nearest convenient weekend, and for several years has run the day after Vaisakhi, so the square does two very different national celebrations on consecutive afternoons.
What it actually is
Less bunting-and-nostalgia than you might expect. Live music and performance, food stalls doing English produce properly rather than as a joke, and hands-on things for children. The square is dressed in red and white. It has run for the better part of twenty years.
Elsewhere in the city
Some pubs make a day of it, particularly the older ones and anywhere with a garden, and a few put on English beer and food menus. Southwark and the City have the strongest showing. None of it is coordinated with the square, so treat them as separate outings.
Getting there
Charing Cross, or Leicester Square. Free and unticketed, so go when you like. The middle of the afternoon is the fullest.
