Things to do near me: a London answer, by area and by tonight

If you are in London, this is the honest version of a near me search: what is on today, what is free, and how to narrow it to your own bit of the city.

What is on closest to you

Your position is worked out by your own browser and never leaves your device. Distances are straight line miles to the middle of each area, not walking directions.

Searching for things to do near me gets you a map of whatever is closest, which is useful if you want a bowling alley and useless if you want a good evening. This page does the other thing: it starts from what is actually on in London today, and lets you cut it down to your part of town.

Start here if you want tonight. Our today page is rebuilt every weekday with everything we have checked, in time order. Tomorrow is built the night before, which is when the good things are still bookable. This weekend goes up on Thursday.

Narrow it to your own area

This is what near me actually means for most people: not within four hundred metres, but without crossing London. Pick the part of town you are in and you get what is on there.

Central and West: Soho, Covent Garden, Marylebone, Notting Hill, the South Bank.

East: Shoreditch, Hackney, Dalston, Stratford, the City.

North: Camden, King’s Cross, Clerkenwell.

South: Peckham, Brixton, Greenwich, Southwark, Battersea, Elephant and Castle.

Narrow it by what kind of thing

Free is the busiest of these and deservedly so. Then gigs, comedy, theatre, exhibitions, markets, clubs and late night, which is everything still going after eleven.

Why a near me search is worse than it looks

Two reasons, and knowing them saves you an evening.

The results are ranked by distance and by who has paid for a listing, not by whether the thing is any good or even open. And they are heavily weighted to permanent venues, so a one-off event three streets away, which is usually the better night, does not appear at all.

The fix is to search by what is happening rather than by what is nearby. That is what this site is: everything is dated, checked against the venue’s own page, and carries its link so you can confirm before you travel.

If you are not in London

Then this is the wrong site and we would rather say so. Everything here is inside the M25. What we can offer someone visiting is the guides, which cover the things worth planning a trip around.

What is on right now

All 2170 listings

This guide is rewritten each year before the dates come round. For what is actually happening this week rather than what happens every year, the listings below are dated, checked against the venue and carry the venue's own link.
