What to expect

Din Tai Fung, the Taiwanese group best known for its Xiao Long Bao soup dumplings, is opening its fifth London restaurant at 1 Lewis Cubitt Walk in King’s Cross. It is due in December 2026. No opening day has been announced yet, and we will add it, with how to book, once the restaurant publishes them. Its King’s Cross page takes sign-ups for news of the opening.

The room seats 160 and brings a few firsts for Din Tai Fung in London: a 30-cover outdoor dining area, a community dining room seating 20, for group dining, events and dumpling masterclasses aimed at adults and children, and a bar with a drinks list of its own.

The show kitchen sits at the heart of it, so you can watch the dumplings being made. They are folded by hand every day, each with 18 pleats. Next to the kitchen, Din Tai Fung Bar will pour cocktails made only for the UK from its Origins of Craft list, including Spritz 1955 and Yang’s Old Fashioned, alongside premium sake, a locally brewed house beer and IPA Zero.

The menu runs to more than 70 dishes, with the regulars from its other London branches: Pork Chop and Egg Fried Rice made with Clarence Court eggs and Taiwanese rice, Special Noodle Soup with Braised Beef on homemade egg noodles, a corn-fed chicken soup steamed for just under six hours, Cucumber in Spicy Sauce, and Chocolate and Mochi Xiao Long Bao to finish.

Din Tai Fung was founded in Taipei more than 60 years ago by Yang Bing-yi, as a cooking oil shop before its handmade dumplings took over. It now has more than 180 restaurants across Asia, North America, the UAE and the UK. It came to London in 2018 with Covent Garden, and has since opened in Selfridges, Centre Point and Canary Wharf.
