Westminster Abbey

Ticketed for sightseeing, free if you come to a service, and Evensong is sung most weekday afternoons in term. The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Galleries are up in the triforium, which most visitors miss.

Directions

What to expect

A Friday morning at the abbey, and the queue is shortest late in the afternoon rather than at opening.

A coronation church since 1066 and a burial ground for most of the people in the history books, packed so tightly you walk on the graves. Poets’ Corner is what most people come for. It is a working church and closes to visitors for services, so check before travelling.

Westminster station is two minutes away. The cloisters and the college garden are the quiet part and most visitors miss them.

Nearby

Westminster has the nearest stations and everything else on in the same part of town. The Westminster Abbey page collects every listing we hold for that address. Filed under Exhibitions.
