Directions

What to expect

Seventy metres of eleventh century embroidery, in England for the first time in nearly a thousand years. It is not a tapestry and it is not really about a battle: it is a comic strip about an oath, and the marginal figures are half the story. Room 30, until 11 July 2027.

Worth knowing

Timed entry, and every ticket from opening day to 31 December has sold out. The next release, covering January to March 2027, goes on sale on 21 October, with members booking again from 6 October. April to July follows in early 2027.

Prices, if you are holding a ticket

Adults are 33 pounds at standard times and 27 off-peak. The cheapest slot is the super off-peak one, 25 pounds, and it is only sold for term-time weekdays between 15.30 and 16.20. Under 16s go free with a ticketed adult. The museum stays open to 21.00 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, which is the quietest way to see it.

Getting there

Holborn, Tottenham Court Road and Russell Square are all about five minutes. The museum’s Great Court is free to walk into without a ticket. The Bloomsbury page has the rest of what is on nearby. Everything we list at this address is on the British Museum page.
