What to expect

Bunso is a Filipino-inspired all-day restaurant from Omar Shah, founder of the Maginhawa Group, which runs Mamasons, Guanabana and Belly. It opens at 1A Hawley Road in Kentish Town on 13 October 2026, the date on its own website. It was first announced for September.

The name means youngest child in Filipino. By day it is a bakery and café, with laminated pastries, savoury pies, pancakes, sandwiches, coffee and matcha. In the evening it turns to pizza from a deck oven, fresh pasta, crudo and kinilaw, the Filipino dish of raw fish cured in vinegar or citrus, along with salads, small plates, desserts, cocktails and wine.

The music comes through a hi-fi built for the room, playing vinyl and CDs. The site on Hawley Road was once a hair and beauty academy.

Prices, opening hours and how to book have not been published yet, and we will add them when Bunso publishes them. Its website points to its Instagram, @bybunso, for news in the meantime.

The details here come from Bunso’s own website, checked on 16 September 2026, and from Restaurant Online and Hot Dinners, which reported the opening on 14 and 18 August 2026.
