The Late Edition

London's evening edition. Independent, updated daily.

Where can you drink late in London?

Most pubs stop serving at eleven. Soho, Dalston and Shoreditch are where the late licences are, running to two or three in the morning and later at the clubs. The night tube runs on Friday and Saturday nights on five lines, and the night buses run every night.

What time things actually close

Eleven is the standard pub licence and it is enforced. A late licence to one or two is common in central London, three is a proper late bar, and after that you are in a club. Last entry is often an hour before closing, which catches people out more than the closing time does.

Where to go, by hour

Midnight is easy almost anywhere central. One to three is Soho, Dalston Kingsland Road, and the top of Shoreditch High Street. After three it is a small number of licensed clubs, and it is worth knowing which one you are heading to before you leave the last place.

Getting home

Night tube runs Friday and Saturday on the Victoria, Central, Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines. Every other night it is night buses, which go everywhere and take a while. Both are on the standard fare.
