London's evening edition. Independent, updated daily.

What time is the Lord Mayor’s Show?

The procession sets off from Mansion House at eleven on Saturday 14 November and it is free to watch from anywhere on the route, with nothing to book. The useful thing is that it passes twice: it comes back along the Embankment about ninety minutes later, to a fraction of the crowd.

It passes twice, and almost nobody knows

Most people watch the procession go out at eleven and go home. It returns along the Embankment roughly ninety minutes later, the same three miles of it, with far fewer people watching. If you cannot face the crush in the morning, the return is the better watch.

The route out

From Mansion House to the Royal Courts of Justice by way of St Paul’s, Cheapside and Fleet Street, then back up the Victoria Embankment.

Getting there, and getting out

Cars and buses are not allowed into the City on the day. The whole City area is closed to traffic for most of it, buses are diverted and parking is suspended from the Friday afternoon. Roads usually reopen before four. The Elizabeth line at Farringdon is well placed.

The programme

Five pounds, cash only, sold on the day by Scout and Guide volunteers, of which a pound goes to the seller.
