Notting Hill Carnival: Children’s Day

The Sunday is the family day and the one to bring anyone under ten to. Same route, same sound systems, a fraction of the crush. Free, and the buses stop running near it early.

Carnival is always the August bank holiday weekend, so the Sunday here follows the calendar rather than an announcement.

Directions

What to expect

The Sunday is the family day, and the one to bring anyone under ten to. Same route, same sound systems, a fraction of the crowd, and the children’s mas bands take the road in the morning with the costumes they have spent months making.

Worth knowing

Considerably calmer than the Monday and it finishes earlier. It is still two hundred thousand people, so a pushchair is hard work after midday. The judging point on Great Western Road is where the costumes stop and turn, which is the best place to actually see them.

Getting there

Walk in from Shepherd’s Bush or Paddington rather than trying to get off at a station inside the route.

Nearby

Notting Hill has the nearest stations and everything else on in the same part of town. Filed under Seasonal.
