Winter Lights at Canary Wharf

Two weeks of commissioned light installations across the estate, free and outdoors, in the part of January when there is otherwise nothing at all. Quietest on a weeknight.

Canary Wharf has run this in the second half of January for years and the 2027 dates here follow that pattern until the estate publishes them.

Directions

What to expect

A free outdoor exhibition of light installations spread across the estate, changed every year and commissioned from artists rather than bought in. It is the best thing Canary Wharf does and it is genuinely free.

Worth knowing

No ticket and no booking. It runs for about two weeks in January, which is the emptiest fortnight in the London calendar and precisely why it exists. Weekday evenings after seven are quiet; the middle weekend is not. Allow ninety minutes to see all of it.

Getting there

Canary Wharf on the Jubilee, the DLR or the Elizabeth line. The trail is signposted and mostly under cover between the towers. The Canary Wharf page has the rest of what is on nearby.

Listed by Angela. Checked 9 September 2026. Details can change on the night; the venue link is the one to trust.
