Old Royal Naval College London: what's on
Greenwich's grandest set piece, Wren again, built as a hospital for seamen and later the naval college, and now the centre of the Maritime Greenwich world heritage site. The Painted Hall is the reason to buy a ticket: nineteen years of Thornhill's ceiling, best seen lying on one of the mirrored trolleys they leave out for the purpose. The grounds are free and open late, which makes the river frontage between the two domes one of the better places in London to be at dusk. Eight minutes from London Bridge by train.
- HoursPainted Hall, Chapel and Visitor Centre daily 10.00 to 17.00, last entry 16.30. The grounds are open daily 8.00 to 23.00. The Painted Hall closes early for events, and the dates are published on their site.
- AdmissionGrounds free. Painted Hall 19 pounds adult, 9.50 concessions, 2 pounds on Universal Credit, under 16s free with an adult.
