The Cenotaph London: what's on
Lutyens's war memorial in the middle of Whitehall, unveiled in 1920, deliberately carrying no religious symbol and no name. The National Service of Remembrance is held here on the second Sunday of November and the road closes for it. The rest of the year the traffic runs either side of it.

Whitehall closes and the service is at eleven. Free to watch from the pavement if you are there by nine thirty; after that you will hear it rather than see it.
