Chinese New Year parade and stage, Trafalgar Square

The parade leaves Charing Cross Road around midday and the square runs performances into the afternoon. Best watched from the north terrace rather than in the crowd.

Chinese New Year 2027 falls on Saturday 6 February, and London celebrates on a Sunday, usually the one after, so 7 February is the expected date until the London Chinatown Chinese Association confirms.

Directions

What to expect

The largest celebration outside Asia: a parade from Trafalgar Square through to Chinatown, then a full afternoon on the main stage in the square with dance, music and the lion and dragon troupes.

Worth knowing

Free and unticketed, and busy from mid-morning. The parade is best watched from Charing Cross Road rather than from inside the square, which fills first. The food stalls on the square are the sensible alternative to the Chinatown queues.

Getting there

Charing Cross and Leicester Square both sit on the route. Expect road closures across the whole of the West End for most of the day. The Westminster page has the rest of what is on nearby. Everything we list at this address is on the Trafalgar Square page.
