Diwali on the Square

The largest Diwali celebration outside India, one until seven in Trafalgar Square. Free and unticketed. It fills from about two, so come at one for the space and stay for the lamps at dusk.

A fortnight before Diwali itself, which is Sunday 8 November.

Times and prices are what the venue published when we checked. They move, so confirm on the venue's own page before you travel.

Directions

What to expect

Trafalgar Square given over to the festival of light: a two hundred dancer opening, a main stage of music and dance from the Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities, craft workshops, and the food stalls that are the actual reason a lot of people come.

Worth knowing

Free and unticketed, which means it is busy from the start rather than filling gradually. Arrive by one if you want space near the stage. It is a daytime event that ends at dusk with the lamps, so it is not an evening out.

Getting there

Charing Cross is at the corner of the square and Leicester Square is two minutes north. The square itself has the National Gallery on it if you want an hour indoors first. The Covent Garden page has the rest of what is on nearby. Everything we list at this address is on the Trafalgar Square page.
