Oxford Street Christmas lights

The oldest of the London displays and the longest: nearly a mile of it from Marble Arch to Tottenham Court Road. Switched on in early November and lit from late afternoon.

What to expect

The switch-on is a ticketed event with a stage and a name doing the honours, but the lights themselves are up and lit every evening for the following two months and cost nothing to walk under. The display runs the whole mile and a half.

Worth knowing

The switch-on night itself is the worst possible time to see them: the street closes, the crowd is enormous and you will see very little. Come any other evening in the following weeks and you will have the same lights and room to look up.

Getting there

Bond Street, Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court Road all put you under them. Regent Street and Carnaby Street, both a minute away, have better displays and fewer people. The Marylebone page has the rest of what is on nearby. Everything we list at this address is on the Oxford Street page.
