London venues that have closed: what we have lost, and when

London loses venues faster than it replaces them, and the record of what went and when is usually scattered across a few news stories and an Instagram post. This page keeps it in one place.

What is on this page. Only closures we have confirmed against the venue’s own announcement or credible reporting, with the date. Where a venue has said it intends to return, that is recorded too, because closed and gone are not the same thing.

Corsica Studios, Elephant and Castle

Closed at the end of March 2026, after opening in 2002. Two arches, a 500 capacity, and a sound system that mattered more than the size of the room.

The club was explicit that it was not forced out by noise complaints or by developers, and said it had been working with Southwark Council, the Greater London Authority and the Music Venue Trust on a future in the area. It closed in its current form, with the arches due to be handed back as an empty shell and a stated intention to return refurbished and sound-proofed. It ran a closing season from New Year’s Eve 2025 to the end of March.

We will list it again when it reopens and not before. Its venue page says the same.

Ye Olde Swiss Cottage

The pub that gave Swiss Cottage its name, close to two hundred years old, served its last pint in February 2025.

The Pickle Factory

The original room off Bethnal Green held its final party on 1 January 2025.

The scale of it, which is the part people miss

Individual closures read as bad luck. The numbers do not. The Music Venue Trust’s 2025 report found that 30 grassroots music venues closed permanently between July 2024 and July 2025, and a further 48 stopped operating as gig spaces. More than half of the UK’s grassroots venues made no profit that year.

For late-night venues across Greater London the count fell from 433 in 2020 to 343 by late 2025, a contraction of about a fifth in five years.

How to check whether somewhere has closed

The venue’s own social accounts are almost always first, and usually well before the website changes. A site that has not been updated in months is a signal in itself.

A dead website is not proof, and a live one is not either. Corsica’s site was serving a server error months after it shut; plenty of closed venues keep a domain running for years.

The Music Venue Trust tracks grassroots closures nationally, and local papers cover them better than the national press. For a specific room, the promoter usually knows before the listings sites do.

Experiences that ended in 2026, with the receipts

Ticketed experiences close faster than their own marketing does, and the listing sites almost never take the page down. These four all ended and each has a page here saying so, with the operator’s own wording and what to do instead.

Stranger Things: The Experience, which ran at Troubadour Brent Cross Studios. Dopamine Land, whose own site now reads exhibit finished. The Empire Strips Back, the Star Wars burlesque parody, whose London page is headed finished. And Jurassic World: The Experience, which no longer appears on its own operator’s list of cities.

Not a closure but the same problem for anyone searching: Fazenda in Bishopsgate still exists and is no longer called Fazenda. It was rebranded to Fogo de Chao, same address, same rodizio.

Added 9 September 2026. Jeff Wayne’s The War of The Worlds: The Experience has closed at 56 Leadenhall Street after seven years and 320,000 visitors. The production announced on 30 April 2026 that Ellipsis Entertainment, the company licensed to operate it, had ceased trading. The music survives it: the musical version tours theatres and concert halls from October 2026.
